The Amistad

Wow! What a powerful story! The Amistad is the Freedom schooner. Captives from Africa overpowered the cew murdering the captain and cook and took control of the schooner. Later when captured by another ship and captain, they used the lawyers and court systems of the United states to regain their freedom. What an amazing story!

I especially like the fact that after the case was being tried that some of the captives had even learned to speeak and write in English.

What a powerful story. I enjoyed listening to JR tell the story with so much passion. I will mak sure my students are aware of the true story of the freedom schooner: The Amistad.

I love Fourth Grade!

I hated history when I was a student. Perhaps that is why I work so hard to make it fun for my students. We do reader's theaters, Promethean board interactive activites, we read novels and picture books related to the time period, and create projects to display our learning. It is amazing how students change their attitude when a teacher changes her teaching strategy.
I am at the point where I love teaching history!
